Hilal Katmale, Principal Engineer
Hilal Katmale is General MicroGrids's principal engineer and master project manager. Hilal Katmale is responsible for power engineering, project control, technology selection, vendor management, quality control and client reporting for all project tasks.
Hilal has supported large US utility projects including the development of a Transactive Energy for Real and Reactive Power Transactions and in the evaluation of a strategic High-Value Application Experiments and Demonstrations for Integration of Customer Premises Networks (CPN) with Smart Distribution System Operations.
Prior to joining General MicroGrids, Hilal was a Partner and the Senior Microgrid Consultant at Horizon Energy Group for four years. He was part of the Borrego Springs Microgrid Demonstration project co-funded by the Department of Energy (DOE) and the California Energy Commission (CEC). Specifically, Hilal supported the architecture development, integration and deployment of the Microgrid Master Controller interface to the multiple enterprise systems including Energy Storage, Self-Healing Networks and Price Driven Demand Response. He supported the Hawaii Electric Company (HECO) as an "Owners Engineer" to create tactical plans for assessment and implementation Enterprise Architecture, Customer Information System, Geographic Information System, and Outage Management System and (ABB) to evaluate their product offering and analyze how the company’s products and services can be applied to the emerging Smart Grid market. Hilal also supported ABB to evaluate their product offering and analyze how the company’s products and services can be applied to the emerging Smart Grid market
During his six year tenure at SIEMENS as an Engineering Project Management Analyst, Hilal supported multiple projects for the execution of SCADA/EMS/DMS, developed project requirements, functional specifications, test strategies and training program in support of project enhancement for utility enterprise applications like [Operator Training Simulator, Automatic Generation Control, Distribution Network Applications] within the suite of SIEMENS monitoring and control applications. He performed system analysis and planning for Indian utilities using Siemens Network Calculation (PSS®SINCAL) and served as the engineering expert on Network Applications, Power Applications, and Dispatcher Training Simulator.
Hilal has a MS from the University of Minnesota and a BS from the University of Mumbai.
